Frequently Asked Questions
What if I miss a class?  Attendance is essential in this program.  Students are expected to show up and participate fully for the group process.  However, if circumstances prevent a student from attending the class, the students can miss up to 3 days or 20 hours of the program without being dropped from the course.  Student will be required to make that time up with the Primary teacher, which may including traveling to the Primary's home studio and paying for private instruction--both travel, time, and cost will be the student's responsibility.

Will I be registered as a YogaAlliance® Teacher upon completing the course?  Upon completing the course, students will receive a Transcending Yoga Teacher Training Certificate with the YogaAlliance® approved seal.  However, students are responsible for registration and fees with YogaAlliance®.  Instruction on How to Register will be given the last day of class.

Do you accept payment plans? Students may make installments up to the first day of class at the regular tuition rate as long as the first payment is made within the early bird schedule.  Payments arrangements are not extended beyond the first day of class. Students may also apply for partial or full scholarships if a financial hardship should arise.

Do I need to teach public classes if I do not intend on teaching yoga? Not necessarily.  Affiliates and Ambassadors offer monthly Circles for Change playshops that are a donation-based collaborative opportunity for teachers, teachers in training, and students to teach and practice together to raise awareness and funding for underprivileged communities.  Also, a format has also be set up for one-on-one sessions to provide feedback.  If the student wishes to teach one-on-one with another teacher, they are responsible for any private session fees or work-trade arrangements made with that teacher and/or studio.

Do you offer boarding or a meal plan?  No, however, students may request to be published on a list of students interested in sharing accommodations.  Students occasionally collaborate a potluck-style meal to save the cost of eating out and explore eating vegetarian and sustainable living.  A list of local stays, restaurants, and businesses will be included in your welcome letter as well as in your online student resource center.

I am already teaching yoga classes, may I use my previous experience toward my practical requirements?
No the purpose of the practical requirement is to provide an opportunity for the student to apply the knowledge and skills they receive from the program with the guidance and feedback of an experienced teacher.  If you are already a 200 RYT, you may  apply your time and experience toward the 500 RYT certification.

    Code of Ethics
The nature of yoga (union of body, mind and spirit), on or off the mat, is to open the body and psyche through which profound transformation can occur.  As teachers of yoga, we are stewards of the trust our students place in us.  It is our responsibility to uphold and foster a safe and sacred environment in which to allow this work to happen.  It is essential that anyone teaching yoga have a high degree of personal integrity and maintain clear boundaries in the role of serving the students.

Holding ourselves as teachers places us in a position of power over our students, however subtle or obvious.  We become their mentors, facilitators and helpers.  Some students may idealize us or project that we are wiser or more evolved than they are.

As professionals , we must remain aware of this power dynamic and never exploit the vulnerability of a student for personal gain or gratification.  Students need to have a place to come where they can safely open their hearts, observe their own deeper dynamics and be free from sexual distractions and conditioned behaviors.  Because of this, we ask that yoga teachers adhere to the code of ethics as outline by Yoga Alliance:

    YOGA ALLIANCE CODE OF CONDUCT:
    1. Uphold the integrity of my vocation by conducting myself in a professional and conscientious manner.

    2. Acknowledge the limitations of my skills and scope of practice and where appropriate, refer students to seek alternative instruction, advice, treatment, or direction.

    3. Create and maintain a safe, clean, and comfortable environment for the practice of yoga.

    4. Encourage diversity actively by respecting all students regardless of age, physical limitations, race, creed, gender, ethnicity, religion affiliation, or sexual orientation.

    5. Respect the rights, dignity, and privacy of all students.

    6. Avoid words and actions that constitute sexual harassment.

    7. Adhere to the traditional yoga principles as written in the Yamas and Niyamas.

    8. Follow all local government and national laws that pertain to my yoga teaching and business.
